The ceiling mounted sensors use an Active Infra-Red (IR) system to detect the heat of people passing underneath the sensor. The sensors see a square on the floor approximately the same size as the height of the unit. They track all movement of body heat through this space. The sensors have a flexible counting zone that can be easily changed to maximise the counting accuracy of the entry.

Beonic Thermal Sensors have the highest accuracy rate in its class with accuracy levels consistently above 90% without the need for any multipliers or dividers. The sensor will maintain this accuracy even in very hight flow rates such as Train Stations, Airports, or shopping centre entries.
Beonic Thermal Sensors are ceiling mounted they see all of the people passing under the sensors. Traditional side mounted technology is unable to separate people entering in groups or in high flow environments. Beonic Thermal Sensors are not affected by ambient lighting conditions or shadowing, which is a common complaint of video based people counting solutions.
Beonic Thermal Sensors are available in two types:
- Single, for small entries up to 4.5m in width
- Master/Slave, up to 7 of these sensors can be linked to count wide openings up to 26m in width
The width the Beonic Thermal Sensors will see is dependent on the height of the area to be counted. The lower the height, the narrower the width. Beonic Thermal sensors come in three lens angles to let count at heights up to 12.5m above the floor.
